I'll be back on board soon; I've been enjoying a bead hiatus after a couple of stressful weeks. I'm also waiting for post-honeymoon permission to post a very pic heavy post about a bridal commission I did recently. See you soon!

(Happy Easter Everybody!)

How To Pay Less On Home And Contents insurence — Buildings insurence went up again last year, costing homeowners another 1% a year, taking the average to just over 205 for a year’s insurence. Contents insurence also went up, this time by 2% - now it costs the average homeowner 151 a year. However, some lenders are hiking prices even higher than that Norwich Union for example, raised its prices by a whopping 6% last year. The question is - why? There’s so much competition out there, you’d expect prices to be falling, not increasing but there are other forces at work, as we go on to discuss. No 1 the cost of having a house repaired or rebuilt Labour and building materials are getting more costly, so when the insurence company calculates how much it would cost to rebuild your house, prices are higher. This is due to inflation, and the same thing affects the insurence company and its own operating costs. Wages, bills, office rental all these costs are increasing year on year so of course insurers have to factor these in. No 2 the weather The British weather is getting more and more tempestuous, whether it’s due to global warming we are not qualified to say, but it’s a fact that we have been experiencing a lot of extreme weather in the past few years. The 1987 hurricane was a freak occurrence, but flash floods such as the incident in Boscastle, Cornwall, Helmsley in North Yorkshire, and Carlisle are making the headlines on a regular basis. The Association of British Insurers has stated that the average insurence claim due to flood damage could be anything from 15,000 to 30,000, making huge dents into the insurence industry’s profits. In fact, floods cost insurence companies millions every year. No 3 - Burglary Claims due to burglary have been going up, now average at around 1,400. The 2 main causes are: From digital cameras to laptops, game consoles to ipods our houses are full of electronic gadgets with a high value bought new, and a high value resold. Burglars are after these items and it’s hitting the insurence industry where it hurts their pocket. Burglars pick posh neighbourhoods to ensure they get away with the best items - with expensive items like jewellery for the taking, the value of these kind of claims is increasing. insurence companies use statistics relating to a postcode area to calculate premiums for everyone in that area. If your neighbours have suffered subsidence, or your area is near a river which has been known to flood you will have to pay higher premiums. Similarly, if people in your area have been broken into, then it will be assumed that you are at a higher risk of making a burglary claim too. Having a no-claims discount is a help when it comes to offsetting the annual rise in premiums, but insurence companies cap these discounts once you have 5 years no claims, so you will not get any further discounts.

Yves Saint Laurent passed away today. The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts just opened a YSL retrospective this week, and San Francisco's de Young Museum announced it will host the YSL retrospective this November.

"Fashion does not only exist to embellish women, but also to reassure them, to give them confidence, to allow them to accept themselves? I have wanted? to place myself in the service of women? Meaning to serve them." - Yves Saint Laurent

I add two new things to my etsy shop. These were items that appeared on the blog but not at the shop.

This article annoyed me. It is titled: Lunch break medic 'ignored call' and the opening paragraph is:
"A paramedic has been criticised for not cutting short a break to help a woman who had suffered a heart attack."

When you read the article, however, what you discover is that "An ambulance technician was on the scene within four minutes, but a paramedic did not attend with him because he was on a lunch break... Under the rules of the UK Government's Agenda for Change NHS pay modernisation programme, ambulance crews are entitled to a break during their shift and cannot be disturbed during that period... All ambulance services in the UK must comply with these rules, unless staff choose individually to be interrupted during their break."

What annoys me is that it makes it sound like this paramedic wilfully left someone to die, when they were actually taking a break that is a legally enforceable right - and should be, because people who work in emergency medicine SHOULD have regular rest periods! Ok, so the paramedic wasn't far from where the woman had her heart attack - but we have no idea how long said paramedic had been working, how many other people he'd tended to that day - and isn't this a sign that there should have been more paramedics on duty, and maybe the ambulance service is overstretched?

I'm also annoyed that apparently the legislation can be overruled by someone "choosing" to work during their break. I can imagine that busy ambulance crews could easily get "encouraged" to "choose" to work through their breaks, but that's not going to be good for patient safety.

Since this is a public post, this may as well serve as my public notice that tomorrow I'm going on holiday, whee! And I will return 1 October.

Exciting news, readers! The 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show is quickly approaching!

They’ve just finalized the details about confirmed world and North American debuts. Because of the new dates (November 16-25th), it is now the first major show in North America. Manufacturers are taking advantage of this earlier timing by making more World and North American debuts than in previous years. This year, at least 14 World debuts and nearly 30 North American debuts will occur during press days (November 14th and 15th).

While most debuts remain closely guarded until press days, a few manufacturers have announced their intentions, including these Exotic cars!

Luxury cars debuting on U.S. soil include:

+ The $1.4 million Lamborghini Reventon, hailed as the most powerful and expensive Lamborghini ever built
+ Ferrari?s new lightweight 430 Scuderia
+ Bentley?s new and more powerful Continental GT Speed
+ Porsche’s most powerful 911, the new GT2.

Other worldwide debuts are anticipated to include new hybrid editions and other advanced environmental technologies.

Among the vehicles making their first appearance on U.S. soil include:

+ The completely new Jaguar XF luxury performance sedan
+ The entirely new BMW 1 Series coupe

Keep a look out for the announcement of this year?s Green Car of the Year®.

The winner of the 2008 Green Car of the Year (GCOY) award will be named during a press conference the morning of November 15th. The importance of this award is validated not only by the increase in consumer demand but by the rapid growth of low emission and environmentally-friendly new vehicles on the market.

Check out the LA Auto Show site for details.

There are many qualified lawyers out there who may be able to help you. According to studies, insurence claims have a much better chance of being settled if it is done with the assistance of an auto insurance expert lawyer. This is because your auto insurance lawyer knows every miniscule detail there is to know regarding auto insurance claims. Protect your rights; hire an auto insurance lawyer to help you. Before making a road accident compensation claim, there are special issues which may affect liability. Council Immunity: This states that a victims injury may limit an injury victim’s ability to sue when the driver of the vehicle that causes an accident is a council employee who is working at the time of the accident, or where the accident involves a council-owned vehicle in view of a road accident compensation claim. Owner Liability: This states that even if a vehicle is borrowed to a third party, if an accident ensues, the owner may be jointly liable for damages caused by the third parties fault.

OK, honestly I wasn't interested in the Emmy's this year (because there is simply so many more interesting news right now, like the financial news and the China milk scandal.) But the one thing that I did want to know about the Emmy's was that Tina Fey, Alec Baldman and 30 Rock won four 'big' awards -so yay for them!

08s5_03_lr Take Me on your Next Road Trip

What better way to take your next summer road trip then in the new Audi S5? It was just named by KBB.com as one of their top 10 road trip cars this year. What warrants their pick of the S5 as a top road trip vehicle?
The S5's "performance , comfort and slick European style" helped the S5 stand out from other performance vehicles.   We think they forget to mention one think about the S5 , its road presence- it would be one of our top choices for road presence with its flashy design and not to be missed LED headlamps.

The Avenue Hotel Chicago offically opens today.  Situated in the Magnificent Mile and just off Michigan Avenue, it has 200 guest rooms and 120 suites, many with great views. Business travellers will particularly like their Tech Rooms which come equipped with an iMac, T1 connection and printer.

After reading another jewelry artist’s blog Something Sublime, I went and bought myself some steel wire. The Home Depot didn’t have a great selection, but I got some 24 gage, 28 gage, and 20 gage. The 20 is really to hard to work with but I tried it anyways. lol. I decided that I would try my hand at some jewelry inspired by Eni Oken

I must admit that I haven’t tried one of her tutorials yet, but I will be.

Here is my work in progress. It is stainless steel, paua shell and glass beads.

This one has a white howlite cabochon.

Hows this for an interesting walk??? Not sure I could do it!

I have been expanding my willingness to share more of the things I create. I enjoy working with a variety of mediums. So I decided a name chage was due. I will still be making jewelry along with other things. All of my craftiness will be being sold under my new studio name, Spiraling Elements Studio! It is a much better fit for me and my work. Don’t worry this jewelry in wire blog isn’t going anywhere! I will be closing www.jewelryinwire.etsy.com at some point in the future. I have opened a new etsy shop www.SpiralingElements.etsy.com.  I’m working on creating a new line of jewelry to better reflect myself and my style. All the new jewelry will be up for sale at the new etsy shop.

NITE STORIES

?Nite Stories" consists of 11 acrylic paintings.
The aim of the project is to capture unusual and unconventional moments of young people's nights out.
Dark backgrounds give the mysterious touch to brightly coloured characters from Mark Hunter's photographs.

Nite Stories are inspired by Soulwax Nite Versions.

Stephen Dewaele agreed to cooperate in this project, and took the patronage over the exhibition.
Music that will accompany the paintings is inspired by the work of those famous Flemish artists.

"In a day and age where everyone takes digital pictures, posed in almost globally similar ways, posted instantly all over the web, it's refreshing to see someone adapt this world to canvas and blow up these little mini-observations of nite-life..." Stephen Dewaele

Representative of the Flemish Government has taken the patronage over the exhibition.

Mark Hunter (thecobrasnake) will be my special guest at the opening night.
His photography was my inspiration for this painting series.

Nestled along a cliff overlooking the Caribbean Sea and away from the hustle and bustle of the island, lies a true St. Lucian Treasure. This new, laid back little village is located on the serene West Coast and is simply known as “Ti Kaye” which means small house in the native creole patois language of St. Lucia. It is a secluded, peaceful location - a perfect hideaway for those who seek complete relaxation in casual, yet beautiful surroundings. Ti Kaye Village Resort overlooks the west coast of the island where guests will experience panoramic views of the deep blue sea with occasional sailboats drifting by in the tropical breeze. When I think of vacation, an image of the beach and clear blue waters comes to mind. It doesn?t get much better than laying out by the ocean (with loads of SPF on of course) with a good book in one hand and a daquiri in the other. Now that it?s officially beach season, I?m on the search for a couple of cute caftans to throw into my suitcase as cover-ups.

This Generra caftan dress in a bright tangerine colour would be absolutely perfect for the many beach excursions I?m planning for this summer. In a breezy cotton-voile fabric with an eye-catching print, it’s vibrant, stylish and easy to throw on over a bathing suit for an afternoon stroll or while grabbing a bite to eat. $225 also available in black at Shopbop.com.

No I haven't split my trousers or done something disastrous in the trouser area... I'm simply noting the fact that for two days in a row, I've worn...*gasp* trousers.  For those of you not in the know, me and trousers have a love/hate thing going on.  We embrace each other when the trousers in question are perfectly formed and/or are quite strange/unique.  Otherwise, mundane, plain trews are just a pain to try on and a bore to wear.

Ok, yesterday I was cheating.  There is a grey tutu over the Raf Simons trews but still, the sweatshirt on the top could have morphed into a skirt to be a poofy tunic so I'd still count that as trouser wearing.  The Pierre Hardy x Louise Goldin shoes were apt as it was the day of the stupendously cool Louise Goldin show.  French blogging royalty Garance and Geraldine are in town (it's so odd seeing them in Old Blighty...) and they very kindly snapped me (yes I am a leacher of other people's great photography skills whilst not being able to develop my own...)...

Suziebubble

Today, I changed three or four times, beginning with a dress, then adding these trews and in the end shedding away the dress to opt for these Preen trousers and the very comfy Tristan Blair wedges. The zipper collar is also NOT at all heavy (to those that asked...) and I even added more weight with some Paraphernalia necklaces.

By the by, I head these posts with London Fashion Week, though the reality is I've barely been to any shows but instead have had to enjoy fashion week secondhand through other people's pictures and text... it's ok... I keep telling myself that in about a week's time I'm going to be all over Paris like a messy, dishevelled rash that just won't go away, so it's fine.

**EDIT** Lovely Geraldine has just put her pics up and has captured my cheesy smile... I know people are far preferring the 'slicker' second outfit....but I do so love the self-created Aladdin pants effect with the Raf Simons trews... by far my favourite trews of the year (say it with me..elasticated waists are GOOOOD!)

What Happened To CineKal? - Part One

It was a Monday morning just like any other Monday morning: the birds were a-chirping, the office coffee was a-flowing and a fresh batch of new videos had just been a-put up on Super Deluxe. Among them was Fark TV’s Lady & The Ramp. And as was the case with nearly every other Fark TV episode that’s appeared on this site since we launched, a snarky comment was posted on it within minutes of it going up by the user known as CineKal.

lady-the-ramp.png

But perhaps February 4th, 2008 wasn’t just another Monday like any other. Because not only did this comment from Fark TV’s most infamous detractor seem to lack the usual intensity of his trademark vitriol…

lady-the-ramp-reaction.png

lady-the-ramp-reaction-2.png

…it was also to be his last one ever.

OK, maybe not ever. We don’t actually know if he died or has otherwise been rendered unable to use a computer with a broadband connection anymore. But we do know that after faithfully criticizing more than 100 individual episodes of Fark TV for more than an entire year, CineKal has gone silent. Without any explanation, he’s completely stopped commenting on them altogether. Nearly a dozen have premiered in the month since Lady & The Ramp, and not a single one has received so much as a “NOT FUNNY” from the once-steadfast gadfly. Used to be, you could set your watch to his prickly posting habits: a Fark TV episode would go up at, say, 10 A.M; by 10:15 A.M., rest assured, CineKal had not only ripped it to pieces, but was also in the process of igniting an all-day comment war. It wasn’t pretty, but at least it was predictable. Until now.

So, what gives? What’s going on? What happened to CineKal? In this multi-part series, we’re going to try to answer some of those questions as well as figure out exactly who the man behind the hate is (or was), why he suddenly stopped hatin’ and why he ever began in the first place. Oh, and whether or not he’s actually a member of Fark TV (as many have suspected).

To Be Continued…
