NEW YORK (AP) – Everybody knows what the Empire State Building looks like. That's why Rick Bell, the head of the Center for Architecture, didn't put the famous skyscraper on his list of 10 great buildings to see in New York.

art.apple.ap.jpg

The Apple store in SoHo is noted for its glass bridge and staircase.

But the list from the Center for Architecture, which is the American Institute for Architects chapter in New York, does include the Condé Nast Building in Times Square, which is considered the first green skyscraper; the Apple store in SoHo, noted for its glass bridge and staircase; and the Seagram Building, the only design in New York by famed architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.

If you're an architecture buff, here are some details on why these and seven other buildings should be on your must-see list. All but one are located in Manhattan. While you're in town, you may also want to visit the Center for Architecture at 536 LaGuardia Place.

Condé Nast Building: 4 Times Square, Manhattan, by Fox & Fowle Architects, 1996-1999. This 866-foot tall skyscraper in the heart of Times Square is what Bell calls "environmentally correct," with state-of-the-art air quality and energy conservation

Clear, Complimentary Bags Available at all Security Checkpoints at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport

GREATER FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – September 11, 2007 – The Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau has made the stringent air travel regulations a little more “transparent” for those flying from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Destination-branded, clear plastic bags – a Federal Aviation Administration must-have for travelers carrying on liquids such as shampoo, toothpaste, shaving cream or makeup – are now available FREE at all security checkpoints throughout the airport.

The bags, bearing Greater Fort Lauderdale’s tourism logo, are designed to hold several three-ounce containers – the maximum container size that can be carried on to planes.  Travelers who forgot or misplaced their clear plastic bags during their vacation will be able to keep their toiletries in tact, as well as take home a handy, last-minute souvenir from this beach chic destination.

The Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau is making available approximately one million of these branded bags, and encourages travelers to fly now while supplies last.

“The new branded airport bags are a practical, convenient and effective means of keeping Greater Fort Lauderdale top-of-mind to travelers even after they’ve left the destination,” said Nicki E. Grossman, President of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Not only will travelers always remember their trip to the destination, they won’t have to keep throwing away their favorite hand cream or perfume just because they forgot their clear plastic bag.”
